FEATURED PROJECT...

BUILDING COMPONENT EVALUATION

This new high-rise building in Miami, FL will be constructed with interior and exterior CMU non-load bearing walls that require top-of-wall connections using dovetail anchors. The Contractor is required by the construction documents to have a delegated professional engineer prepare calculations to provide qualification of the proposed anchors and spacing.

On this project, Cueto Engineering has developed a set of calculations based on the design wind pressures to evaluate the required spacing of the anchors along the CMU walls throughout the building.

If you have a unique project like this and are in need a reliable engineering team to perform computational analysis on your project, make sure to contact us for a free consultation.

ASK AN ENGINEER...

“My building’s recertification is coming up, but I’m thinking about waiting a little longer.

Is there any harm in delaying the process?”

“Delaying your building’s recertification might not seem frightening now, but trust me, postponing it can turn into a real horror story. What starts as a simple delay can lead to a cascade of costly consequences, including code violations, fines, insurance complications, and even forced evacuation in extreme cases.

Buildings that miss their recertification deadlines risk being labeled unsafe, which can haunt your property’s reputation and value. And let’s not forget the financial fright of deferred maintenance. Hidden issues like spalling concrete, rusted rebar, and water intrusion only get worse with time. What might have been a manageable repair can quickly grow into a monstrous expense.

And if the building department comes knocking after you miss your deadline? You could be jinxed by stop work orders, code violations, mounting fines, and potential occupancy issues. In worst-case scenarios, you could even be ordered to vacate the building until compliance is restored.

So this Halloween season, don’t ignore your building recertification like the monster in the closet, or your building could become the next haunted house on the block. Start your recertification process early, face those scary maintenance items head-on, and rest easy knowing your structure is strong, safe, and code-compliant. Because when it comes to structural safety, procrastination is the scariest thing of all.”

Halloween

Happy Halloween

As Halloween creeps around the corner, job sites can be filled with hidden hazards and unexpected scares. During engineering inspections, don’t let safety become a ghost story. Wear your PPE like armor against the unknown, keep walkways free of trip hazards (no cobwebs allowed), and make sure your site is lit brighter than a jack-o’-lantern. Even in spooky season, safety is no trick, t’s a treat that keeps your crew protected.

INDUSTRY INSIGHTS...
