FEATURED PROJECT…
Hurricane Strap Retrofit in Coral Gables, FL
Cueto Engineering assisted a local homeowner in Coral Gables to retrofit their conventional framed roof with new hurricane straps during their re-roofing project. By adding these roof-to-wall connectors, the homeowner was able to not only reduce their homeowner’s insurance premium with a wind mitigation report, they now have a greater sense of security knowing their 1950s home will be safer during hurricane season.
When you are ready to replace your roof, make sure to contact us for a free consultation so we can prepare the documents you need for retrofit hurricane straps as well as updated wind mitigation report for your insurance provider.
ASK AN ENGINEER...
“How do I qualify for a wind mitigation discount on my homeowner’s insurance?”
“Qualifying for a wind mitigation discount on your homeowner’s insurance starts with ensuring your home is built or retrofitted to withstand strong winds, particularly in hurricane-prone areas. Most insurers offer these discounts because wind-resistant features reduce the risk of damage during storms.
To qualify, you’ll need a wind mitigation inspection conducted by a licensed professional, such as a professional engineer or certified inspector. They’ll evaluate key features of your home for compliance with modern building codes including roof covering (i.e. tiles, shingles, metal, BUR), roof deck attachment, roof-to-wall connections (such as hurricane straps or clips), roof geometry (e.g. gable, hip, etc.), secondary water resistance, and window and door protection (like impact-rated shutters or glass).
The best time to schedule a wind mitigation inspection is before your homeowner’s insurance policy is up for renewal or when you’re shopping for a new policy. The wind mitigation report is also important when you are purchasing a new home.”
