FEATURED PROJECT…

Cueto Engineering performed the structural inspection of an operational  communications facility in Marathon, FL, which resulted in the observation of significant structural deterioration. Due to close proximity to the coastline, this concrete structure has been subjected to severe concrete spalling in the supporting structural elements. Immediate action was taken to install shoring where required and repairs are currently underway to ensure this building is safe for continued occupancy and operation.

If you are interested in having a seasoned structural engineer evaluate your building, please contact us for a free consultation.

ASK AN ENGINEER...

“I have a building that is due for recertification next year. Is there anything I can do to get the process started early?”

“As the holiday season rolls in, now is the perfect time to prepare for your building’s recertification. Much like getting your decorations ready early ensures a stress-free holiday, starting the recertification process ahead of time helps avoid last-minute surprises.

In Miami-Dade and Broward Counties, buildings over 30 years old—or 25 years old if located within three miles of the coastline—are required to undergo recertification. This ensures that the structural and electrical systems are safe and compliant with current standards. You’ll need to submit the recertification report to your local building department by the deadline, which is tied to the building’s original Certificate of Occupancy date.

Begin by gathering all relevant documentation, such as original plans, maintenance logs, and prior inspection reports. A licensed engineer can use this information to understand your building’s history and identify potential areas of concern. The next step is to get a proposal from a trusted engineering firm to take on your project.

By tackling these tasks before the new year, you’ll give yourself the gift of peace of mind and ensure your building is ready to meet its recertification deadline.”

INDUSTRY INSIGHTS...

Muon detectors, which use the principal of energetic particles that occur when cosmic rays hit Earth’s atmosphere, can penetrate deep into concrete structures and provide insights into potential cracks and corrosion that traditional X-rays cannot. To learn more, please click here.

Supplementary cementitious materials could help meet decarbonization efforts in the near future. If the cement industry can accelerate adoption of additional cementitious materials, it could  unlock a new horizon of value creation. To learn more, please click here.
